Established in 1956, the Foundation Center is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy. Its mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy. The Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. grantmakers and their grants. It also operates research, education, and training programs designed to advance philanthropy at every level. The [Catalog of Nonprofit Literature|http://cnl.foundationcenter.org/], the library's searchable database of works in the field, is accessible on the Foundation Center's website. Thousands of people gain access to free resources in its five regional library/learning centers in New York, Atlanta, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, and through its network of more than 350 Cooperating Collections \-\- funding information centers located in libraries and nonprofit resource centers in every U.S. state, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
