h1. ISO 25964. Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies

ISO 25964 is an international standard development project of ISO Technical Committee 46 (Information and documentation) Subcommittee 9 (Identification and description). The assigned Working Group (known as ISO TC46/SC9/WG8) is revising, merging, and extending two existing international standards: ISO 2788 and ISO 5964.
The end product is a new standard \- ISO 25964, Information and Documentation - Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies - supporting the development and application of thesauri in today's expanding context of networking opportunities.
ISO 25964 is being published in two parts, as follows:
* [ISO 25964-1: Thesauri for information retrieval|http://www.iso.org/iso/iso_catalogue/catalogue_tc/catalogue_detail.htm?csnumber=53657|ISO 25964-1: Thesauri for information retrieval]. was published in August 2011. [A NISO's webpage|http://www.niso.org/schemas/iso25964/|XML schema (ISO 25964)] enables access to an XML schema associated with ISO 25964-1, Clause 15 of the standard presents a [data model|http://www.niso.org/schemas/iso25964/Model_2011-06-02.jpg] which is intended to guide the format used for exchanging thesaurus data. The associated XML schema may be used for transmitting a whole thesaurus or portions of a thesaurus.
