Awards & Stipends

2009 Special Libraries Association Student Travel Stipend

Every year, the Boston Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) offers a travel stipend of up to $1,800 to a current student in library and information science to enable the student to attend the 2009 Annual SLA Conference.

Read the details about applying for the Stipend Award on the Stipend Applications page.

This year, we are pleased to announce that our winner is Molly Caple. Molly just graduated from the Simmons GSLIS program. She has a strong background in the legal research field, which includes experience with the Social Law Library and Seyfarth Shaw LLP's Boston office, and plans a career in law librarianship.

You can read Molly's winning essay here.

This year's conference is particularly notable as we celebrate the Association's Centennial and our Opening Speaker is former Secretary of State Colin Powell (http://www.sla.org/centennial/). The conference will take place in at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. 14-17 June 2009 and the theme is "Information to Inspiration: Knowledge & Vision Shaping the Future."

Current students: plan ahead for next year's Annual Conference in New Orleans! Watch this space and the SLA Boston listserv for the announcement in the fall. Details follow.

2008 Chapter Awards

The Boston SLA Awards Committee is once again seeking nominations of chapter members for any one or more of the three following Awards, to be presented during the Annual Business meeting at the end of this calendar year:

  • The Chapter Achievement Award recognizes a chapter member for outstanding committee work, performance in office, or execution of event-related duties, during this particular program year.
  • The Distinguished Service Award recognizes a chapter member for a sustained record of supporting chapter activities over the years. These may be for service on one or more committees, by holding various offices, or for managing different events, that when considered cumulatively have notably furthered the life of the chapter.
  • The Special Recognition Award is conferred on longstanding chapter members as they cap their careers, and approach a well-deserved retirement, in recognition of what they have done or meant to the chapter.

We are thrilled to announce the 2008 SLA Boston Chapter Award Winners!
