Mention to friends and colleagues that you are a member of ASKPro and gauge the legitimacy of your organization by their response. Thus far, in accompaniment with a smirk or quizzical look, I have received associations with astro, alpo, and after one mishearing, you'd think we'd be a group of proctologists.
I think the organization should reconsider its naming selection.

But this name change isn't about the initials, rather it's about choosing a name that emphasizes our importance to our organizations. If the initials were the crux of this we would have changed them long ago since the current initials are shared with a terrorist organization (ie Symbionese Liberation Army.
The proposed name has gone through vigorous research with members, executives, and HR Professionals. So we have empirical evidence that this new name will work for us. You can see the research at http://www.sla.org/content/SLA/alignment/portal/index.html

It is patently obvious that the ASKPro acronym both preceded and heavily influenced the name selection. Such a sequence of events is the only plausible explanation for the meaningless jumble of buzzwords comprising the name "Association of Strategic Knowledge Professionals". Had this process been conducted in the 1990's would we now be called the "Association of Total Quality Contributors" or some such other trendy nonsense? If one of the goals is to make the name relevant now and into the future, then the name and the acronym must both be considered epic fails.
