Unconference Ideas

Has anyone ever been to a Pecha Kucha event - this is such fun - like speed powerpoint.?  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pecha_Kucha

I notice we are taking 'unconference' where I suspect we mean each session is less structured than a more common 'talking head'  session.  Usually an 'unconference' referes to the whole conference - not just a session.

It seems we are putting together a series of less structured sessions and referring to them as 'unconference'.  Am I correct in this assumption?

A colleague from the World Bank and I are pulling one together in mid-May. We are working to get the session sponsored by Atlassian who will hire a group to run a LIVE streaming video of the event and then make the webinar available on their website. Will keep you posted. We are figuring out if their will be enough bandwidth available to handle this. Will keep you posted.

    Nerida -

You are correct - unconferences are generally an entire day where the structure is determined in the morning once everyone creates a list of topics they want to discuss. Sessions generally have no predetermined length, they simply last for as long as is useful to the group.

At SLA2009 we're hoping to have sessions which function similarly - folks arrive and the facilitator helps create a list of what people would like to learn and who is available to talk about it. Then folks share their expertise!

As for pecha kuchas - I was in the audience for one at Computers in Libraries 2008 and it was a AMAZING! But I think the new thing is Battledecks!
