At the Government Transportation Research Information Committee (GTRIC) program, share new developments and current challenges in your library with your colleagues. Decipher the groups in the transportation library landscape as participants describe their involvement. Get practical advice on how to use some of the communication tools, such as wikis, which SLA provides as part of our membership. Learn about work zone safety resources and what's involved in developing and maintaining an award-winning portal. Too much cataloging to do? Find out how "7 Good Ideas for Cataloging" can make a difference in your approach to tackling your backlog. Envision what life in transportation outside the library might look like. We'll have plenty of time for networking, too.

Who are YOU in the transportation library community, and who are THEY? How do the different parts of the community relate to each other? Why does this matter? Members of the division will put a personal face on LIST, B0002, TPF, and other entities. You'll also have time to ask TRB Information Services Manager Barbara Post and NTL Director Amanda Wilson questions, such as how their operations and services affect you.

Grab some coffee and join your colleagues for the annual board meeting. It's a great way to learn more about the division and how you can be an active player. In addition to our regular business, including committee reports, this year we have some thought-provoking discussion items on the agenda: Does our division, the smallest in SLA, have a viable future? What special role does the division play within the transportation library and information community? Should we enhance the value of membership by restricting some services only to division members? Help your elected officers steer a steady course into the future by attending this important meeting which is open to all division members.

Spotlight Session!

Do you love your job, but cannot see any opportunities for advancement? Are you looking for ways to move yourself into a more prominent role, or your library into every department in your organization? Learn how to get that promotion and be more visible without changing your job. Panelists will share their secrets for career development success. Because of its broad appeal, this program, co-sponsored with the Solo Librarians Division, has been selected as one of five Spotlight Sessions at this year's conference. The Future of Transportation, Tuesday  June 16, 1:30 - 3:00 pm, Convention Center 144C

Transportation is at a critical crossroads, facing major challenges with infrastructure, financing, the environment, and security. This session will focus on these issues, looking at the connections between these areas, and the information infrastructure that is needed to support developments in the field. Co-sponsored by Transportation Division and Engineering Division. The division thanks BNA for its generous support for this session.

Transportation Division Open House, Tuesday June 16, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, The Keck Center

We're having a special open house this year with just the transportation community. Barbara Post of TRB has arranged a lovely venue for us at The Keck Center of the National Academies, 500 Fifth Street, NW, just a 10-minute walk or one subway stop from the Convention Center. Colleagues from transportation agencies and organizations also have been invited, and you're welcome to bring a guest. We'll be recognizing our own Roberto Sarmiento, recipient of the division's 2009 Professional Achievement Award. Mark your calendar and be sure to join us for a festive evening and a great networking opportunity. The division thanks ASCE and EOS for their generous support for this event.
