SLA Hot Topic: Does Taxonomy Matter in A New World of Search and Discovery?

Tuesday 10:00AM -11:30AM

Description: Info Pros and librarians rely on classification and controlled vocabularies to aid precision search, and A&I publishers make investments in indexing and thesauri to add value to their products. Many organizations are experimenting with semantic technologies, in hopes of automatically extracting what documents are about and supplementing or even replacing the human editorial process. At the same time, many end users are satisfied with simple text search and don't recognize a need for controlled vocabularies or added indexing. This session will look at the current state of the industry, and explore the future outlook for blending taxonomy and other tools in the new world of search.

Speaking: Suzanne BeDell

Sponsor: SLA Events Department
