Library Buzz: New Look at ROI in Corporate Libraries

Needing to justify their existence is no new topic for any corporate library.  Even as corporate libraries are being challenged, now more than ever corporations are looking to accelerate the innovation process, improve productivity, support knowledge-based decision-making, and realize innovation.  Learn through new case studies how real corporations are providing positive return on investment in corporate libraries right now.
George Scotti currently manages Channel Marketing and Account Development for Springer. Most notably, George has been working very closely with librarians all over the world through Springer's Library Advisory Board program.  Through the program, Springer's executive team has the ability to receive direct feedback from academic, corporate and government librarians.  The innovation being driven at Springer is a direct result of the LAB and the partnerships it is has forged. One such outcome is the Return on Investment white paper that was suggested at our last Corporate LAB. The results of which George will present during the session.  Previously to his current role, George worked as a Global Marketing Manager for Kluwer Academic Publishers and held marketing positions at Lucent, Verizon and W.R. Grace & Co. He also has an MBA in international business from Bentley College.

Information professionals are uniquely qualified to deploy and leverage Enterprise Social Software. Yet, we are often unable to use similar software to promote, network and extend our own value in our work environments and in our professional sphere. We will share information, technology and processes that will enable you to:

    1. Build your visibility - promote yourself in your current organization
    2. Build your community & explore options  - expand the number of scope and number of opportunities for employment
    3. Build your portfolio - multipurpose your projects, share the knowledge and the value
    4. Consider many ways to use your LIS skills - it is not always in a library or information center
    5. Add social media tools as part of your research toolkit

Slides available here.
A look at security issues in social media
Social networking tools like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn are fabulous! However, what doors did you leave open? You'll see real examples,
and we'll discuss issues and best practices around security and privacy when using these tools and also how to find information using these tools.
Marcia Rodney has been with Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. for more than six years, initially as senior analyst in library services reporting to strategic intelligence, and also supporting the scientific and engineering staff.  She now works as an operations analyst, reporting to the Albuquerque office of Ball's Systems Engineering Solutions business unit.  Marcia both tracks and teaches social networking for her team. Prior to her work with Ball, Marcia was part of the competitive intelligence team at Qwest, supported technical research at Maxtor (now Seagate), worked at the Earth Sciences and Maps Libraries at CU-Boulder, and in long ago chapters was librarian for Communication Arts and a researcher at CBS News. As principal analyst for her own firm, RSL Research Group, she works on survey design and analysis, primarily in the library field, as well as supporting small business clients. Marcia is looking forward to more time on her bike and a different kind of searching.
