The Karen Sternheim Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser Committee plans and stages an event, or series of events as in a group on online seminars, that raises funds for the Sternheim Scholarship. The goal of the committee is to raise $3,000, the annual amount of the scholarship, aside from any expenses that the fundraiser event incurs. The Chair of the committee recruits committees members and coordinates the program with the Chapter President and President-Elect, ensuring the program's timing does not conflict with other Chapter events. Once the date and venue for the fundraiser have been set Karen Sternheim's parents (residing in Arizona) should be invited and offered a complimentary registration to the fundraiser. Contact information should be passed to each year's fundraiser Chair by the Chair of the previous year's event.
The Chair reports directly to the President-Elect.
The Chair of the committee also works with the Vendor Relations Chair in seeking financial support for the program. Additionally the Chair seeks feedback from the Executive Board on the event's venue, theme, timing, cost, and other details.
The committee has also sought silent auction and raffle items from vendors and members to act as incentives for attendance and to raise additional funds. The Chair of the committee should collect any fundraiser materials, including a framed photo of Karen Sternheim, from the Chair of the previous year's fundraiser.

NOTE: When developing a registration fee structure for a Chapter program, and there are separate fees for SLA members, non-members, and students / retirees / unemployed, members of the following associations can register at the SLA member level:
- Southern California Association of Law Libraries (SCALL) - approved by the Southern California Chapter Executive Board, May 14, 2008. The SCALL Board voted on May 13, 2008 to extend member rates to SLA Southern California Chapter members for its chapter programs and annual institute.
