Beginner Basics to Get You Started:
- For a quick overview on the best uses of wikis and how they differ from blogs, view this short presentation at http://www.sla.org/PDFs/2008LS_sla-wikis.pdf
- How to create a login: You don't need a login to see the Info Ethics Wiki but if you'd like one to view all SLA wikis, go to http://wiki.sla.org/dashboard.action. In the upper right hand corner, click on Sign Up.
- To make it easier to remember, for your user name and password we recommend using the same one that you use to sign on to the SLA site.
- How to set up a email notification of new posts ("Watches"): Click on the 'Browse Space' link for the space. Go to the 'Advanced' tab. In the left panel, click on 'Start watching this space'. This link will be replaced with a new link to 'Stop watching this space'.
- To manage your notifications for your "Watches": Click on the 'Preferences' link in the upper right hand corner. Go to the 'Watches' tab. This lists the pages and spaces you are currently watching. Click the trash icon beside any unwanted watches to remove them.
- To edit or add to pages, go to the page you work on, click Page Operations then Edit. If you want to add a page to your space, be sure to go to that space first so you can add it as a Child page to your space - otherwise you will add a new page to the main homepage. Example: If you want to add a page for Board Minutes, go to Chapter Documents first, then add your new page.
- To post a comment to a page, repeat the above instructions then scroll down to the yellow comment bar. Enter your comment then click Save.If you are posting a Word document with lots of formatting, post it as an attachment. NOTE: Comments cannot be edited so if you add content you might want to update later, do not add it as a comment!
Table of ContentsOverviewA wiki is a Web-based application that allows people to add, remove, edit and change content through a browser. The ease of interaction makes wikis an effective tool for collaboration. Wikis can be considered a content management system. The Special Libraries Association (SLA) selected Confluence, a wiki application, for its members. Click on the links below for additional information:
