Robert Bellanti

G. Lynn Berard

G. Lynn Berard is the Head of the Science Libraries at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). She holds a B.S. degree from Eastern Michigan University and an A.M.L.S. degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan. In addition to her management responsibilities, Lynn teaches graduate library science courses for Clarion University of Pennsylvania and has recently become Editor of FOCUS, the CMU Faculty Newspaper.

Lynn has served twice on the Board of Directors of the International Special Libraries Association in the posts of Chapter Cabinet Chair and Director. Most recently she chaired the Executive Director Search Committee (2002-2003). She has planned and presented workshops for the Leadership Development Institute of the Special Libraries Association and served on the Conference Planning Committee for the 1999 Annual conference. Lynn has served at both the division and chapter level as chair and president and numerous duties in-between. In 1999 she was presented with the SLA Rose L. Vormelker Award for her mentoring of students and practicing professionals in the field of library science. At the SLA Annual Conference in June 2003, Lynn will be inducted into the honorable society of the Fellows of the Special Libraries Association.

Lynn has been a speaker at conferences of the ASEE, SLA, CEESE, ONLINE, and ACRL. She is the author of the Engineering and Technology Section of the reference work Magazines for Libraries now in its 12th edition. Lynn frequently engages in consulting work; notably for the National Technical University of Athens in Athens, Greece. On the CMU campus Lynn has served on two Presidential Search Committees and was elected Treasurer of the Faculty Senate.

Outside of work, Lynn loves to canoe, garden, and spend time with her husband Alan and Springer spaniel Katie. Her latest urge is to take up the violin - so far no one has begged her to give up the idea.

Jo Anne Boorkman

Ellie Briscoe

Ellie Briscoe has been a member of SLA for more than 30 years. She served the Washington, D.C., Chapter as president-elect, president, and past-president (1997-1998) and as secretary (1995-1996). Briscoe chaired the chapter's Strategic Planning Committee (1991) and Election Committee (2000-2006), introducing electronic balloting for chapter elections. She also chaired the chapter's News Group for ten years (1988-1998). For her commitment to leadership and to SLA, the chapter named her Member of the Year in 1996.

Briscoe is a regular contributor to News Library News and has been instrumental in publishing the News Library Directory for several years running. She was recognized in 2007 by the SLA News Division with the Agnes Henebry Award for her service. Briscoe currently works at the National Geographic Society in Libraries and Information Services in Washington, D.C.

Terri Brooks

Since 1996, Brooks has been director, library services, at the Investment Company Institute (ICI) in Washington, D.C. Before that, she managed the corporate library for Furash & Company and held positions in three other organizational libraries.

An SLA member since 1979, Brooks is part of the Washington D.C. Chapter, the Business and Finance Division, the Information Technology Division, and the Leadership and Management Division. She has held numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Bylaws Committee and Diversity Leadership Development Program Committee and member of the Baltimore Conference Program Planning Committee, the Recognition Task Force, the Association Information Services Caucus and the Task Force on Membership. She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Business and Finance Division.

She received a bachelor of arts from Idaho State University and a master of librarianship degree from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Anne Caputo

Anne Caputo is SLA's 2010 president and the executive director of the Dow Jones Learning & Information Professional Programs, where she is responsible for the planning and development of learning initiatives for Dow Jones Content Technology Solutions group. Prior to joining Dow Jones in 1998, she served in various positions with The Dialog Corporation, most recently as director of Dialog's Quantum information professional program and the Classroom Instruction Program.

Caputo is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, College of Library and Information Services, as well as a member of the distance education faculty for the University of Tennessee, School of Information Sciences. She served SLA at the local level as a director and later president of the Washington, D.C. Chapter. She has also served at the international level on SLA's Board of Directors as the 2006-2007 Chapter Cabinet Chair and as Secretary to the Board. In 2004 Caputo was named a recipient of SLA's Rose L. Vormelker Award for mentoring students and practicing professionals.

Toni Carbo

Holly Chong-Williams

Chong-Williams is a division chief at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Chong-Williams actively supports the research activities of more than 7,000 full-time staff to support the office's major functions--the examination and issuance of patents and the examination and registration of trademarks.

Chong-Williams has been a member of SLA since 1990, and she has been active in both the Information Technology Division and the D.C. Chapter since she joined. For the division, she has held nearly every available leadership position including treasurer, government relations chair, chair-elect and chair. Her leadership and support of the Information Technology Division has facilitated that division's strong presence in the association and has ensured that their activities have been both financially and professionally successful.

Patricia Cia

An SLA member since 1993, Cia is Cordinator, Technical Services & Library Systems at Langara College, in Vancouver. She most recently served on the SLA Board of Directors from 2004 to 2006 as chapter cabinet chair-elect and chair.

Before that, she played an instrumental role in the virtualization of the SLA's Western Canada Chapter. Recognizing that its members were widely dispersed, the chapter in 1997 volunteered to be SLA's "virtual chapter." Cia was communications chair, a position that included serving as webmaster, bulletin editor, and list owner--which made her responsible for putting the structure of the virtual chapter into effect. Under her editorial guidance, the "Wired West" became the first chapter bulletin to go solely electronic.

Cia also served as treasurer and president of the Western Canada Chapter and has been a member of several Association committees and task forces including the Code of Accountability Task Force and the SLA Centennial Commission. She is currently acting Director in the Leadership and Management Division and has been elected to serve as Director for a full term effective January 2009.

Cia previously worked for Teck Cominco as corporate librarian/webmaster and worked in two other organizational libraries. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Victoria and a master's degree in library science from the University of British Columbia.

Christina de Castell

Christina de Castell is the manager of the Online Information & News Division at Vancouver Public Library, a division handling virtual services and information product contracts. She previously managed InfoAction, the library's fee-based research center. De Castell was chair of the SLA First Five Years Advisory Committee in 2009 and a member of the 2008 Conference Advisory Council and the 2009 Nominations Committee. She was the blog editor for the Leadership & Management Division in 2008, and was Secretary in 2007. She is also a member of the IT division.

She is currently serving as director and public relations chair for the Business & Finance Division. In 2005-2006, de Castell was president of the SLA Western Canada Chapter. During her term, the chapter hosted the 2006 Pacific Northwest Conference on Content Management, with the Pacific Northwest and Oregon Chapters. She served on the governance committee of the B.C. Libraries Association in 2007, and was treasurer from 2009-2010. She has presented at events for the SLA Western Canada Chapter, B.C. Library Association, Vancouver Association of Law Libraries, and University of B.C. School of Library, Archival and Information Studies. Her presentations have included Web site project management, retaining new librarians, professional development, RSS, wikis, and working as a special librarian.

Susan DiMattia

Susan DiMattia, president of SLA in 1999-2000, has been an SLA member since 1972. In 1994-96 she served on the SLA Board as Chapter Cabinet Chair-Elect and Chair. At various times she has held office in the Fairfield County, Boston and Long Island chapters, the Business & Finance, Leadership & Management, and other divisions, and on several committees. Most recently she completed two and a half years as chair of the Fellows/Centennial Commission "Voices of SLA" oral history project. During 2009/2010, she has been a member of the Information Outlook Advisory Council.

Honors: DiMattia was named a Fellow of SLA in 2004. In 2006 she was named the Distinguished Member of the Business & Finance Division. She received the Alumni Achievement Award from Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science.

Education: Her graduate education includes an MBA from the University of Connecticut with a concentration in marketing. Her MLS from Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science focused on special library management. She holds a BA in English and Economics from Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA.

Teaching: She serves on the adjunct faculty at Pratt Institute School of Library and Information Science, teaching Introduction to the Professions; Special Libraries---New Roles, New Environments; and Interpersonal Communications for Information Professionals. She also has taught in the graduate programs at the Palmer School, Long Island University and at Southern Connecticut University. She has taught continuing education courses for SLA and many other professional organizations.

Writing: For several years, she was editor of Library Hotline. At the same time she developed and launched Corporate Library Update, eventually moving it from a print to an electronic product. She has contributed to Library Journal, American Libraries, Searcher, Information Outlook, and other publications in the profession.

Career progression: Upon completing library school, she created a library for New England Merchants National Bank in Boston. She then became a business reference specialist for the Suffolk Cooperative Library System on Long Island. For several years she maintained a consultancy, doing projects in strategic planning, collection development, staff training, and serving as an expert witness for a federal case involving an information product in the finance field. She also conducted focus groups for several major content providers. The consultancy and writing assignments continue to occupy her time in 2010.

Elizabeth Bole Eddison

Elizabeth Bole Eddison was chairman of the Board and vice president of Inmagic Inc, a computer software company with customers in more than 50 countries. Inmagic Inc, of which she was co-founder, is a company that spun off from Warner-Eddison Associates, Inc. in 1984 to better focus on the increasing demand for software such as INMAGIC, the new company's first product.

At Warner-Eddison Associates, Inc., which she co-founded in 1973, Eddison designed information management systems and approaches to meet the information needs of corporations, government agencies and other organizations. Under her leadership Warner-Eddison Associates first developed INMAGIC, innovative textbase software.

In 1988 the Associated Information Managers selected her for its William T. Knox Outstanding Information Manager Award. Betty Edwards

Edwards serves as manager of business development research at law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Edwards has implemented key programs for client teams to identify legal and business opportunities. Her career has spanned industries and technologies and ranges from experience on the library vendor side as a sales / training account representative to engineering librarian at a major R&D laboratory. As a Boston Chapter SLA member, she has served in a number of key roles on the Executive Board, including president, treasurer and secretary.

Edwards is currently serving a two-year term as treasurer of the Legal Division. In 1993, 1996 and 2000, she received the Boston Chapter Distinguished Service Award and SLA's association-level award in 1992 for Excellence in Public Relations. Edwards is committed to SLA and to the profession. Her devotion to life-long learning inspires her to take an active interest in the future of special librarianship by mentoring library science students as well as those already in the profession. She is a graduate of Simmons College GSLIS and has been a member of SLA since first joining as a student in 1978.

Monica Ertel

Monica Ertel is currently Director of Global Information Services for Bain & Company where she leads their worldwide information services network.  Prior to that she was Director of worldwide Customer Services for Innovative Interfaces, Inc., the leading provider of web-based solutions for academic, public, special and school libraries. She came to Innovative from Korn/Ferry International where she was Director of Research for Korn/Ferry International. In this capacity, she was responsible for leading KFI's research and knowledge management efforts. Prior to this, Monica spent 16 years at Apple Computer, where she was Director of Apple's Knowledge Systems Laboratory, a diverse group of programs, projects and services with concentrated expertise in digital libraries, information access technologies, intelligent (agent-based) systems, educational research, internet activities and community networks. Monica was also responsible for the Apple Library, providing Apple-worldwide corporate information and research services.

Ertel has a Masters of Business Administration as well as Masters Degree in Library and Information Science and a Bachelors Degree in Social Science. She was the founding chair of the Silicon Valley Information Center Advisory Board and was on the board of the Special Libraries Association. She is actively involved in several international information organizations including the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Ertel is the editor of several books and has published over twenty articles in a variety of international publications and journals. Her most recent publication is a book she co-edited entitled "The Internet for Teachers and School Library Media Specialists: Today's Applications, Tomorrow's Prospects" published by Neal Schuman Publishers. Prior to coming to Apple, she held management and research positions at Memorex and Stanford Research Institute.

Judith J. Field

Judy Field is Senior Lecturer at the Wayne State University Library and Information Science Program. Prior to this she held positions in corporate, academic, government and public libraries and has worked as a management consultant to libraries. Judy has been active in SLA serving as a chapter president, chair of two divisions and has served on many SLA committees and was SLA president 1997-98. In 2001, Field was honored with SLA's Vormelker Mentoring Award.

Richard Geiger

Richard Geiger is the News Research Director at The San Francisco Chronicle. He graduated from the UCLA Graduate School of Library and Information Science in 1975. In SLA, he served as the Chair of the News Division, 1988/89 and President of the San Francisco Bay Region Chapter, 1991/92. He has chaired the SLA Public Relations, Strategic Planning and Finance Committees. He served on the SLA Board of Directors as a Director, 1993/96, and as Treasurer, 1999/2002. Carol L. Ginsburg

Carol Ginsburg was a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank. She founded the Bankers Trust New York Information Center in 1982. She was Global Head of Business Information Services for Deutsche Bank where she tranformed 100 disparate information professionals into a global network. At Deutsche Bank she managed research activities, content consultation, information product evaluation and desktop deployment to the bankers of non real time products.

Among her professional activities are: Chairman of the Business and Finance Division of the Special Libraries Association and a Past President of the New York Chapter of Special Libraries Association. She has taught at both the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies and the Palmer School of Long Island University. She served as Chair of the Professional Development Committee of SLA from 1997-1999.She served as chair of the Special Libraries Association Task Force on Branding 2000-2002 . Carol was honored in June 2001 with the Factiva Leadership Award. In June 2002 she received the SLA President's Award. In 1996 Carol was named Distinguished Alumna of the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. In 1995 Carol was elected a Fellow of the Special Libraries Association.

She served as Vice Chairman of the Board of PAIS which has now merged with OCLC. She sits on the advisory board of Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies.She has lectured widely in the US, Europe and Asia on topics such as information technology, marketing information centers, business resources and the future of the information profession. Stacey Greenwell

Active in the SLA since 2001, Greenwell is a member of the Kentucky Chapter and of the Academic, Information Technology, and Leadership and Management Divisions. She has served the Information Technology Division in a number of roles, including chair (2007) and program planner (2005).

She led the petition drive to launch the Academic Division in 2008, and she was the division's first chair. She currently serves as the Kentucky Chapter's member blog manager and previously served as the chapter's secretary and bulletin editor. She was awarded the chapter's Professional Award in 2006 and its Outstanding Member Award in 2008. She was a member of the Centennial Commission/2009 Annual Conference Planning Committee, and she serves on the 2010 Annual Conference Planning Committee. Greenwell heads the Information Commons "Hub" of the University of Kentucky Libraries.

Doris Helfer

Doris Helfer is Science Librarian and Chair, Technical Services at California State University Northridge. Responsible for building the library collection for Mathematics, Geology, Family Environmental Studies and Computer Science. Her department is responsible for Acquisitions, Collection Development and Cataloging for the University Library. She is a columnist for "Searcher Magazine: the Magazine of the Database Professional" on Library trends.

Prior to going to CSU Northridge in 1996, Doris worked at AT&T Global Information Solutions, RAND Corp., and the University of Southern California. She currently holds a B.A. in Political Science from CSU Northridge and an M.S.L. from Western Michigan University.

She started in SLA as a student member and has held various positions in the Southern California Chapter, from Calendar Coordinator to President. She has been Chair of the Information Technology Division and Communications Division, as well as Chair of the Networking, Public Relations and Research Committees of SLA, during 1999 to 2001 she served on the SLA Board of Directors from, as Division Cabinet Chair and Chair-Elect.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1978-Present Founded Access Innovations, Inc in 1978. Holds the positions of President and Chairman of the Board. Responsibilities of this position include directing overall corporate operations, especially production and marketing activities and short-term and long-range planning. Activities include consulting in the areas of vocabulary creation, metadata management and database design and development. Clients include national and international corporations, small business, associations, government offices and departments. Consulting has included projects design, workflow analysis, project administration, database design, software development, thesaurus and taxonomy creation and problem solving in all areas of corporate activity.

Special services include the creation and implementation of thesauri and taxonomies as well as the addition of metadata to the information objects in a content management system.

Marjorie holds four patents (pending and full) in automatic text processing, word discovery tools and metadata management.

Her research areas include furthering the productivity of content creation and the governance layer for information access through automated indexing, thesaurus development, taxonomy creation, natural language processing, machine translations, and machine aided indexing. She has given countless presentations domestically and internationally, including keynote addresses. She has given workshops and lectures on thesaurus development, taxonomy creation, natural language processing, machine translations, and machine aided indexing.

She is well known for her all day workshops on thesaurus and taxonomy creation and maintenance given at industry and association meetings. She convened the workshop leading to the new Z39.19 thesaurus and was a member of the standards committee for its writing. She also worked as the liaison to the new British controlled vocabulary standard insuring the two would work together and will now join the group working to harmonize those two standards with the W3C web ontology language (OWL) and other semantic web activities

1973-1978 Starting in 1973 as an information engineer at the Technology Application Center (TAC) a NASA IAC at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. In 1976 she became Manager of Information. She was responsible for the entire process from data acquisition to marketing and shipping of information products and services. She directed the production of five quarterly-published bibliographies on Solar-Thermal Energy, Heat Pipes, Hydrogen, Wind and Remote Sensing. Directed searching and editorial staff of nine people and performed extensive online searching on nine different database systems such as Medline, Dialog, Orbit, and NASA Recon; online an average of 20 hours per week for over two years. She was also responsible for document delivery operations, a staff of four, and marketing of publications.

1978 Information Director, National Energy Information Center Affiliate, Department of Energy, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. Responsibilities included hiring and training staff, and organizing and supervising the information dissemination program including the design of products. Facilitated vocabulary development for FEDEX database, and setting up all production time tables and telecommunications interface with the Washington, DC office. This project was on a six month loan from TAC.

Marjorie is active in both local and national professional associations. She is also a frequent speaker in the information industry presenting more that 40 papers and workshops per year.

She is past president of NFAIS (2002-2003), the organization of those who create, organize and distribute information. Ms. Hlava is past president of the American Society for Information Science and Technology - 1993 (ASIST) and the 1996 recipient of ASIST's prestigious Watson Davis Award, twice a member of the Board of Directors of SLA (formerly known as the Special Libraries Association) she was awarded the Presidents award in 2000 and made a Fellow of the SLA in 2006. A 5 year member of the Board of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) she continues to be active in standards commenting and chairing the standards committees for SLA (9 years) NFAIS (7 years) ASIDIC (5 years). Past President of the Board of Documentation Abstracts, and has held numerous committee and other positions in these and other organizations. In his three years at The British Library Neil has introduced a number of innovations, including a range of workshops and one-to-one business advice sessions, as well as free downloading to memory sticks. He has spoken widely on innovation in business information, including at Online Information 2007 in Sydney, and Online Information 2008 in London.

Prior to The British Library Neil was manager of Business Information Services at Hermes Pensions Management in the City of London. He was responsible for market data services, creating their website and intranet, as well as creating and editing their staff newsletter.

He has been active in SLA for nearly 20 years, including President of SLA Europe in 2003, He was made a fellow in 2006.

In the few hours of spare time that his commuting and two teenage children allow Neil enjoys gardening and tennis. He recently succumbed to a mid-life crisis and bought a Kawasaki KR1-S motorbike.

Trudy Katz is vice president, Corporate Information Center, for MasterCard International Incorporated. Ms. Katz is responsible for overseeing the corporation's information center that serves more than 5,000 employees globally. Managing a staff of information professionals, Ms. Katz leads company initiatives to administer electronic information services that deliver research about industry news and current events.

She was promoted to her current post in December 2000. Ms. Katz joined MasterCard in June 1997 as director, Corporate Information Center, with the primary responsibility for creating a virtual information center.

Prior to joining MasterCard International, Ms. Katz served as information professional consultant for Lexis-Nexis, an leading provider of desktop access to information. She was responsible for forging profitable relationships with New York City's Top 30 accounts. From 1992 to 1995, Ms. Katz held the title of director of Information Resources with Kroll Associates, a global risk consulting company. In that position, she managed internal/external information sources and resources while training investigators to use the latest information products. Her research fed into ongoing investigations and competitive intelligence initiatives.

From 1981 - 1992, Ms. Katz held various information management positions with NCR Corporation, H.W. Wilson Co. and Deloitte & Touche.

Ms. Katz holds a master's degree in library science from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor's of science degree in education from Temple University. Since 2000 she has served as an adjunct professor at Long Island University, New York.

Susan M. Klopper

Susan Klopper was the Director of the Atlanta Information Center for Arthur Andersen LP where she has worked since 1985. She was responsible for managing information services and training for the firm's South Market Circle offices. In 1998 her library was awarded the SLA Public Relations Award for its activities promoting International Special Librarians Day.

She has chaired SLA's Conference Planning Committee for the 1999 Annual Conference in Minneapolis, chaired the Business & Finance Division, conducted annual conference program planning for the Business & Finance and Library Management Divisions, and served as President of the Georgia Chapter. She was elected a Fellow of the the Special Libraries Association in 1999.

In 1998 Susan was awarded the Library Management Division Management Leadership Award. She is a member of the Conference Board's Information Services Advisory Council. She is a regular presenter on the topic of electronic business content at the Online World Conference and has taught expanded workshops on this topic at the Internet Librarian and National Online Meeting conferences. She regularly contributes articles to Online and Database magazines.

Ellen S. Kuner

Ellen has more than 30 years experience in the research field.

Since she joined Burson-Marsteller, Ellen has developed her function from a small operation requiring manual look-up of information into a sophisticated service using state-of-the art technology.

Ellen provides detailed background date for many new business opportunities. She assists with research for a broad range of clients. Some of her activities include identifying spokespersons, verifying trademark status of proposed terms, assisting with crises and supplying up-to-the minute data for mergers and acquisitions.

During the summer of 2000 she coordinated the roll-out of Factiva's Dow Jones Interactive and Reuters Business Briefing on desktops in all Burson U. S. and Latin American locations and assisted in Europe and Asia. Currently she is responsible for global password administration, training and monitoring use of the products. She is overseeing the worldwide change to Factiva.com during the second quarter of 2002.

She is a member of a team that negotiates large global contracts with major research suppliers and vendors for companies within the WPP organization, Burson's parent.

She is chair of Burson's New Tools and Resources Task Force. This group identifies and evaluates new products and recommends purchase of those that will benefit the organization.

Ellen is very active in the Special Libraries Association. She has served on the Board of Directors as well as holding many state and division positions. In 1996 she was the Program Chair for the annual conference of the association held in Boston. More than 7,000 people attended the week-long meeting. She was made a Fellow of the Special Libraries Association in 1994, an honor bestowed on only 60 of the more than 15,000 members. She was a member of the joint U. S. Department of Education/American Libraries Association Accreditation Committee. Ellen frequently addresses professional groups.

H. Robert Malinowsky, 66th President of Special Libraries Association and Fellow of Special Libraries Association, born 7 December 1933, on a farm in rural Trego County, Kansas, the 2nd of two sons of Ciryll Methody Malinowsky and Gladys Anna Marie Sophia Hillman. Attended 8 years of elementary schooling in a one-room rural school, 4 years of high school in Trego Community High School, 1 year at Midland College in Nebraska, and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Geological Engineering. Became a geological engineer for Gulf Oil Corporation and spent 2 years in the U. S. Army before returning to school to receive a Masters in Library Science at the University of Denver in 1962. Worked for the University of Kansas Libraries, University of Denver Libraries, and currently at the University of Illinois at Chicago Library. Taught part time at University of Kansas, Emporia State University in Kansas, University of Denver, and University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Have been active in Special Libraries Association since 1962. Lynne has 32 years of experience as an information professional-all at the Library of Congress. She is an Assistant Director in the Congressional Research Service (CRS) where she manages the Information Research Division. Lynne joined CRS in 1970 as a Reference Assistant, and held increasingly responsible positions within the division before being named Division Chief in 1997 (renamed Assistant Director in 1999).

Lynne has been a member of SLA for over 20 years and has held various positions in the Washington, DC Chapter from Hospitality Chair to President. She is currently organizing a Book Club devoted to professional reading for the chapter. Lynne served as a section chair for ITE, and she currently chairs committees for Social Science Division and LMD. On the Association level, Lynne served as chair of several committees (Government Relations and Professional Development) with her favorite being Chair of the 2000 Conference Planning Committee in Philadelphia, her home town. She was thrilled to be named an SLA Fellow in 2002.

A mother of sons, Lynne was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and in the Virginia PTA, serving as president for an elementary and a high school PTA, on the Fairfax District PTA Board, and on the Virginia PTA State Board of Managers. Lyle Minter

Lyle W. Minter has managed the Newspaper and Current Periodical Room at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC since October 1997.

After completing his Master of Library Science degree at the University of Maryland, where he was elected to Beta Phi Mu, Minter worked as a Librarian for the Department of the Army at several installations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. In 1988 he was promoted to Head of the Reference Branch of the Pentagon Library, and in 1991, he was appointed Head, Government Publications and Periodicals Section, Serial and Government Publications Division at the Library of Congress.

Minter is an active member of the Special Libraries Association and has served on the Association's Finance, Nominating, and Bylaws Committees. He has been President of the Washington, DC Chapter of SLA, twice being awarded its Board of Directors Award. He has also served as Chair, Social Science Division, SLA.

Nancy Minter

Nancy Minter has been active member of both the Social Science Division and the Washington, D.C., Chapter of SLA for more than 20 years. At the chapter level, Minter served as president-elect, president, and past president (1998-2001) and was instrumental in developing new sponsorship policies and mentoring programs. She has also held the positions of nominating chair and awards chair, and she received the chapter's Board of Directors Award in both 1995 and 1997. Minter served as chair-elect, chair, and past chair of the Social Science Division (2003-2005) and as annual conference program planner (2000-2002), and she received a Planners Recognition Award in 2001. Minter also served as membership chair (2003) and public relations chair (1997-2001).

Pat Molholt

Pat Molholt is Associate Vice President and Associate Dean for Scholarly Resources with responsibility for the health sciences library, academic computing, curriculum evaluation, and archives and records management on the Health Sciences Campus of Columbia University.

Her research area is knowledge structuring and she was the co-director of the Art and Architecture Thesaurus Project for the J. Paul Getty Trust from 1980 to 1986. She received her Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1996 in Rhetoric and Communication.

In addition to her administrative duties, Dr. Molholt leads the Vesalius Project, an interdisciplinary research effort to use the NIH Visible Human images to create an electronic curriculum for anatomy. In 1995 she developed the Curriculum Design Studio as part of the Office of Scholarly Resources to assist faculty in using multi-media technology to augment and supplement their classroom and laboratory teaching.

She is a participant on several grants, serves on two editorial boards, and is on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Information Science. She was President of SLA during its 75th anniversary year in 1983-84.

Dottie Moon, part of Pratt & Whitney's central strategy and development group, is responsible for integrating scenario planning and competitive intelligence initiatives into the company's strategic and financial planning process. Her goal is to share her vision of competitive intelligence and its relationship with strategy to weave together various departmental efforts into a cohesive net gain for Pratt & Whitney. She was promoted to her current post in September 2001. Dottie joined Pratt & Whitney's parent company, United Technologies (UTC) in August 1986 as librarian at the then Hamilton Standard division. In the interim, she has worked at various positions within UTC's Information Network as well as a group leader, competitive intelligence for UTC Research Center's Management of Technology Office.

Prior to joining United Technologies, Dottie was an information broker focused on medical information. Clients included physicians, publishers, hospitals as well as lawyers specializing in medical malpractice.

Peter Moon

Peter started working at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection & Insurance Company back in late 1988, and continues to delight in the rigors and challenges of the engineers, as well as the insurance underwriters of the company. He started with a physical facility dubbed the Technical Resource Center, which in more recent years became an office with the title Virtual Information Center in which he draws from a variety of locations for electronic as well as print tools to address the information needs of the staff.

During Peter's tenure at HSB, he became heavily involved with SLA - first as Employment Chair for the Connecticut Valley Chapter and then rose to be Chapter President... not once but twice! In between the two terms, he also was involved with the Engineering Division, serving as their Chair having started as election teller, at the behest of Lynn Berard. Completing his time in the Engineering Division, he assumed the Chapter Cabinet Chair position on the SLA Board of Directors - again following in the footsteps of Lynn Berard. Currently he is involved with the Insurance and Employee Benefits Division as Chair-elect-elect.

In another life Peter was trained at Syracuse University (1977, BS and 1980, MLS) to be a health science librarian. While going through SU, he worked at the Upstate Medical Library, and upon graduating went to Boston to serve as part of the reference department for the Harvard Medical Library. Subsequently he also worked at the New England Journal of Medicine in Waltham, MA to set up a library to support the production staff of NEJM. During this time he was just as active with the associations of the profession - MLA, MaHSLiN, and of course NAHSL. You will have to ask Peter what the last one is all about.

Wilda Newman

Wilda Newman founded Knowledge Associates Resources, LLC, after retiring from the Johns Hopkins University, Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) in 2001. There she developed an interest in Knowledge Management (KM) and did a research fellowship in that field. She teaches graduate courses in KM for major universities, is a consultant in KM, and is active in local, national, and international professional associations. She has a BS in Business Management and Technology, University of Maryland, University College, and an MS in Library and Information Science, Catholic University.

Ms. Newman was with the JHU/APL for 35 years. As Information Resources Manager with the Business and Information Services Department, she was Technical Program Manager of computer systems, responsible for the automation of APL's Administrative Services Department and three subsequent generations of hardware and software. Previous to that she had 16 years in the technical reference library at APL in various areas of reference and management.

The JHU/APL awarded the Lawrence Hafstad Fellowship to Wilda for the academic year 1999-2000 to conduct research on KM and end-user work environments 2010. The work was in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University, Milton S. Eisenhower Library's Digital Knowledge Center. Her work in this area was presented at conferences, including the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and has been published in two publications, the most recent, IFLA Publications 108, Knowledge Management Libraries and Librarians Taking Up the Challenge, Edited by Hans-Christoph Hobohm K - G - Saur Munchen 2004.

Wilda was inducted into the SLA Hall of Fame in 2004 an award given in recognition of extensive professional work with the Special Libraries Association, including three years as a Director on the SLA Board (1998-2001). She was named a SLA Fellow in 1997, an award that acknowledges leadership and outstanding contributions to the association. She is currently serving as Chair, SLA Nominating Committee.

She has been involved with IFLA for several years, including her election to the Standing Committee on Information Technology, and the Standing Committee on Library Theory and Research, serving each, for two, four-year terms, ending in 2005. Most recently she was elected to the Standing Committee on Social Science Libraries for a four-year term (2006-2009) and has begun serving as the Information Coordinator and editor of the newsletter, as well as moderator for the IFLA-SOC-LIB list serve.

Wilda has written extensively, including a book, book chapters, and more than 40 articles. She has also conducted workshops, given seminars, and conference presentations, nationally and internationally, and reviews pre-publication books and articles.

Toby Pearlstein

Toby Pearlstein, Director, Global Information Services for Bain & Company (RETIRED), joined SLA in 1977.

She is a Past Chair of the Business and Finance Division and headed the unit's professional development activities for two terms. She chaired the Transportation Division, served as chair and member of SLA's Professional Development Committee, was a grant reviewer on SLA's Research Committee and a member of the Association's Executive Director Search Committee in 2001. She was elected to the SLA Hall of Fame in 2008.

Through her talks on various conference programs, Pearlstein has contributed to the professional development of her colleagues, most notably in the areas of running a global operation, vendor/licensing negotiations, and knowledge management. She has spoken frequently at SLA events, ranging from Boston Chapter panels to Annual Conferences. She is also a frequent speaker at professional meetings such as ASIST and Internet Librarian.

Karen is Manager, Information Resources Center, Bureau Veritas Consumer Product Services Inc., a French-owned quality assurance services firm, which has locations in 32 countries. She established this information center in 1996 by herself and now has a staff of seven.

Karen previously worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company for eight years and prior to that, Occidental Chemical Corp. Karen has her MLS from the State University of NY at Buffalo, and a BS degree in Social Sciences and Humanities and a minor in Technical Communications, from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. An active member of the Special Libraries Association since 1988, Karen has held various SLA leadership positions, and just finished a term on the SLA Board of Directors (June 2003).

Currently she is President of the Upstate NY Chapter of SLA. Karen also serves on the SLA Professional Development Committee and is the current chair of the Competitive Intelligence Section of the Leadership & Management Division. She is a published author, consultant, and presenter. Her book, Establishing an Information Center: A practical guide, was published by Bowker-Saur in 1999. Karen teaches courses on Business Intelligence, and Special Libraries, for the University of Buffalo's School of Informatics. and also teaches workshops/seminars on the marketing and value of information services. Tom Rink

Tom Rink is a police officer with the Tulsa Police Department (for 23+ years). Tom received his B.A. in Criminal Justice/Psychology from Michigan State University, and his M.L.I.S. from the University of Oklahoma. Tom founded the Resource Center for the police department in 1994 and continues to serve as the solo-librarian/information specialist for the Department. Past assignments have included Patrol (yep, I got to put bad guys in jail), Crime Analysis, Planning and Research, and Policy Writing.

Pam Rollo has been a member of SLA for more than 29 years and has served the association at every level. Rollo was the membership chair (1997 and 2009) and business manager (1995-1997) of the New York Chapter, as well chair-elect, chair, and past chair (1997-1999) of the Business & Finance (B&F) Division. As chair of B&F, Rollo was able to develop, carry forward and implement programs devoted to professional development and mentoring for the division that remain in place to this day.

She also served on the Board of Directors as division cabinet chair-elect and chair (2002- 2004) and then as president-elect, president, and past-president (2005-2007). Rollo was also twice appointed to a position on the association's Strategic Planning Committee (1998-2000 and 2004-2005). As president of SLA, one of her major initiatives was the creation of six task forces to provide recommendations on how to move forward with key association initiatives. I have been a member of the SLA since 1978 and began active involvement with the Boston Chapter soon after I moved to Massachusetts in 1980. It was difficult breaking into this new group of professionals and I was somewhat shy at my first Chapter meeting. I did notice that the people accepting registration and handing out badges knew everyone so I asked to join the committee. That was my first experience with a wonderful group of colleagues that has led me to become President of the Boston Chapter, Chair and member of many Chapter, Division and Association-wide committees, and a Director on the Board of Directors.

My professional life has encompassed three careers. As an information professional, I first began working as a librarian and then as a library manager. I began a new career in sales with some of the major online and internet information delivery vendors, and most recently have combined these skills working in the knowledge management arena.

Donna Scheeder

Ruth K. Seidman

Ruth K. Seidman is an information professional who retired in 2003 from her position as Communications Coordinator for the MIT Libraries. She developed strategies for promoting visibility and awareness of the MIT Libraries on the part of library users, the administration, and library donors, and she served as a resource to the staff for promotional and publicity initiatives. Other responsibilities included overseeing library printed and display materials and disseminating news about the Libraries.

From 1988 to 1999, Ruth was Head of the Engineering and Science Libraries at MIT. In this capacity she was responsible for a staff of 46 in six campus locations, and managed a $3.5 million budget. Earlier positions include: Librarian for the Region I (New England) Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Director of the U.S. Air Force Geophysics Laboratory Research Library.

Ruth received a bachelor's degree in political science, with highest honors, from Brown University. Her master's degrees are: MSLS, Case Western Reserve University; MA in Soviet Area Studies, Harvard University; MA in Judaic Studies, Hebrew College, Brookline, Massachusetts. In conjunction with her communications work for the MIT Libraries, Ruth studied public relations at Emerson College in Boston.

In SLA, Ruth was President in 1990-1991. Her presidential theme was the globalization of information and the importance of moving SLA forward in the direction of becoming a truly international organization. In 1993, SLA published Ruth's monograph, Building Global Partnerships for Library Cooperation. From 1994 to 2000, Ruth was editor of the Haworth Press, Inc. quarterly, Science & Technology Libraries. Other SLA activities include: President of the Boston Chapter, Chair of the Military Librarians Division, Division Cabinet Chair, and Chair of the 1986 Annual Conference.

Ruth has a strong interest in women's and minority rights. While with EPA, she held collateral responsibilities as Federal Women's Program Manager, creating upward mobility programs for women and members of minority groups, and helping women move into non-traditional careers. She is a child care advocate and a founder in the 1970's of two pioneering child care centers, one work-site and one community-based. From 1999 to 2001, Ruth served as board chair for the Boston Women's Health Book Collective, the organization that produced Our Bodies, Ourselves.

Frank Spaulding is a Past President, Special Libraries Association and was Manager, Library Network, AT&T Bell Laboratories. He is presently a library consultant and lecturer on library and information management. He was previously Supervisor, Information Services, Colgate-Palmolive Company and has taught at Drexel and Rutgers Universities graduate library schools. He received his BA from Brown University and his MSLS from Case Western Reserve University.
Frank has been and continues to be active in Special Libraries Association. Prior to his year as President 1986-87, he served as Director and Secretary to the Board of Directors. Previously he was Chair of the Library Management Division and President of the New Jersey Chapter. He commissioned the task force on "The Value of the Information Professional" for which he received the SLA Presidents Award. In 1990 he was named a Fellow of the Special Libraries Association and in 1995 he was inducted into the Special Libraries Association Hall of Fame.

Other information leadership positions Frank has held are: President, Documentation Abstracts, publishers of Information Science Abstracts; Treasurer, American Society for Information Science; Director, Universal Serials and Book Exchange; Member, Board of Trustees, PALINET/ULC; Chair, Advisory Associates, Rutgers University School of Communication, Information and Library Studies.

Gail Stahl

Gail Stahl, an SLA member since 1982, is megatrends lead researcher for the Strategy Practice, and pulp and paper specialist for the Boston Consulting Group. She has been a volunteer leader with SLA for nearly two decades.

She served the Georgia SLA Chapter as president, treasurer, bulletin editor, scholarship awards chair, electronic communications chair, nominating committee (twice), and fundraising chair. She guided the move to revise the chapter's governing documents and reorganize the chapter to operate more effectively. She has served at the division level as chair of the Leadership Management Division (LMD), and has held numerous LMD posts, including conference program planner.

At the regional level, Stahl was instrumental in the success of the first South Atlantic Regional Conference. As a member of the finance committee, she raised thousands of dollars for the conference. Not only were planners able to cover expenses, they were also able to return money to the participating chapters to be used as seed money for the next conference.

She served on the SLA Recognition Task Force, the LA 2001 annual conference committee, and is treasurer of the Competitive Intelligence Division. She has a bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in library education from the University of Georgia and a master's in librarianship from Emory University.

Tony Stankus

Stankus has been a member of SLA since 2001 and is currently the life sciences librarian and professor at the University of Arkansas (U of A) in Fayetteville. He received his master's degree in library science (MLS) from the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he was named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 1992. Stankus taught special librarianship at URI for 25 years before moving to Arkansas.

In 2005 he was named the recipient of the SLA Rose Vormelker Award for teaching and mentorship. He served as president-elect and president (2006-2008) of the Rhode Island Chapter of SLA, and in 2007 the chapter named him Special Librarian of the Year. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the SLA BioMedical and Life Sciences Division (DBIO) and is the editor and author of the DBIO blog. Stankus has authored 12 papers, half of them appearing in the Journal of Agricultural & Food Information, and more than 80 evidence-based blog postings that average over 1,000 hits monthly. For SLA's Centennial Celebration, he organized the highly successful "DBIO Top 100 Journals of the Century" poll and awards ceremony, which garnered considerable media and publishing industry attention.

David Stern

Stern has been an active volunteer in SLA since 1982 and served in a number of leadership positions, including as secretary of the Physics-Astronomy-Mathematics (PAM) Division from 1991-1993 and as chair from 1994-1995. He was recognized by the division in 2001 with the PAM Achievement Award, which is reserved for those individuals whose professional work is marked by distinction and dedication to librarianship in astronomy, mathematics and/or physics. He was also recognized for his contributions to SLA at the association level, and his particular contributions to the literature of the physical sciences through his 2001 publication, Guide to the Literature of the Physical Sciences.

Stern served as director on the SLA Board of Directors from 2000-2003. While a sitting board member, David served on the Committee of Committees and was the liaison to the Research Committee and to the Diversity Leadership Committee. Dan Trefethen works for Boeing Future Combat Systems, a program to transform the US Army with a fully-networked environment of sensors, air vehicles, and communications devices that will provide greater
protection to the soldier and better awareness of the combat situation. Dan joined Boeing in 1997 to work for Boeing Air Traffic Management. Prior to that he was the librarian for 14 years at TRA Architecture Engineering Planning Interiors, Ltd., in Seattle.

Dan is serving as a Director on the SLA Board for 2004-2007. Dan has served as chapter president of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of Special Libraries Association, as well as serving as the third chair of the Solo Librarians Division. He has served on a number of SLA committees, including the 2004 Conference Committee, the Nominating Committee, and the Consultation Committee. He was awarded the title Fellow of Special Libraries Association in 2000.

Dan is a graduate of the University of Washington Information School (back when it was the School of Librarianship), and has a master's degree in Librarianship and a bachelor's degree in English, also from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Dan is married to Joanna Trefethen, a librarian at Seattle Public Library. They have two sons. When Dan isn't working or sleeping, he's often involved in Little League baseball, where his skills as a librarian transfer to his abilities as a scorekeeper and umpire.

Libby Trudell

Libby is a member of the Dialog management team and is responsible for global marketing of Dialog, as well as ProQuest products for the corporate market. The marketing team also managems a variety of programs serving the information professional community, including the Quantum2 leadership development program, the Graduate Education Program, and the Customer Advisory board. Since joining Dialog in 1983, she has had responsibilities including VP Product Management, VP Strategic Planning, Sr. Director, Product Marketing and Director of Marketing & Customer Services. Prior to Dialog, she worked in several consortia serving the library community, where she handled customer support, training and marketing for electronic information services including OCLC, RLIN, and a variety of library automation software products. She started her career at the Massachusetts Bureau of Library Extension, administering funding for federal library grants.

Libby is currently serving as Chair of the SLA 2011 Conference Planning Council and is a member of SLA Public Relations Counci. She served as Chapter Cabinet Chair and a member of the Board of Directors for SLA from 2006-2008. Prior SLA roles have included Chair of the Information Technology Division's Strategic Planning Committee, Virtual Section, and Communications Section. She served as President of the San Andreas Chapter of SLA in 2003-2004. Previously, she was a member of the Library Information Technology Division of ALA, and on the editorial board of the Journal of Library Automation.

Wei Wei

Wei Wei is Computer Science/Computer Engineering and Technology & Information Management Librarian in the Science and Engineering Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz. An SLA member since 1987, she has been an active member of the Science and Technology Division, serving as Chair as well as holding various committee assignments. She was the SLA Diversity Leadership Development Program Committee co-chair and has been chair of the SLA Committee on Association Governance. She also served on committees in Diversity Leadership, International Relations, Conference Paper, SLA Conference Structure and SLA Committee on Committees.

Wei Wei is the editor of Scholarly Communication in Science & Engineering Research in Higher Education and one of the editors of Leadership and Management Principles in Libraries in Developing Countries published in 2004 by Haworth Press. She is a member of the editorial board of Science and Technical Libraries (peer-reviewed journal) and has edited two themed issues of the journal.

Wei has a master's degree in American Literature from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and a master's in information and library studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Gloria Zamora

Gloria Zamora has 30 years experience in the information industry.  As a Government Affairs manager at Sandia National Laboratories, Gloria tracks and analyzes federal legislation.  She also is the liaison between members of Congress and their staff and the management and technical staff at the laboratory.  She represents the issues of the laboratory to Congress.  This position fits well with her history/political science background and interest in politics.  Her information science background provides the necessary tools to aid in searching and interpreting legislation.

Gloria has served SLA at both the local and national levels including two terms as president of the Rio Grande Chapter and two terms on the Board of Directors as Director and most recently as Treasurer and Finance Committee chair, 2003-06.  There have been other committee assignments and special projects since joining SLA in 1977.  She is currently the chair of the 2008 Annual Conference Committee.  Gloria will receive the John Cotton Dana award at the 2007 annual conference in Denver.  She was named a fellow of SLA in 1999.

Gloria received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  When Gloria is not working she enjoys cooking, wine education and she indulges her passion for movies and classical music.  Gloria and her husband Bob live in Santa Fe, NM with their neurotic companion Max (the dog).
