DC Chapter Future Campaign
As we embark on a new century as an association, the Special Libraries Association plays a significant role in demonstrating the value information specialists bring to organizations--and the high price organizations pay without them. As the premier global organization for information professionals and their strategic partners, it is our responsibility to join together to serve the needs of information professionals for the decades ahead.
The Washington DC Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (DC/SLA) is the largest SLA chapter in the world, boasting 1,000+ members from 30 US states and 12 foreign countries across Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Rim. Its members lead hundreds of libraries, including national libraries, law libraries, corporate libraries, publisher libraries, financial libraries, science libraries, and Federal libraries from all branches of the US Government, which combined, represent millions of dollars in annual purchasing power.
In our nearly 70-year history, the DC/SLA chapter members have earned more than 56 major SLA awards including Fellow, Leadership, Diversity, Innovation, John Cotton Dana, Rose Vormelker, and Hall of Fame awards. Our chapter members have also started 19 groups within the Chapter, and have founded SLA Divisions, most notably the Government Information Division, the Knowledge Management Division, and the Military Libraries Division. DC/SLA has produced four SLA Presidents (including the 2010 SLA President); and has hosted the Annual Conference six times (including the June 2009 Conference).
The DC/SLA Chapter provides numerous opportunities for our members to network and collaborate, both in-person and online. Digital networking is enabled through an online discussion list, presence on various collaboration web sites, and a bi-monthly 'Chapter Notes' newsletter. In-person collaboration happens through numerous programs held across the DC Metro area including the Annual Joint Spring Workshop, free SLA Click-University hosted sessions, informal dine-arounds, student/young professional events, the annual New Chapter Member Reception, area library tours, the Annual Meeting/Banquet, scholarship to the SLA Annual Conference and more!
We'd like for you to partner with us through the "DC Chapter Future Campaign" to help DC/SLA ensure the financial stability and growth of the chapter, and to continue providing valuable education and networking opportunities to our members now and into the future. The first phase of this campaign offers chapter members an opportunity to assist the Washington DC Chapter of SLA through a tax-deductable donation. If you'd like to help in this way, please either donate online using the PayPal link below or contact our DC/SLA treasurer to donate by check.
