Position: Research Services Manager

Location: position can be located in our Boston, Washington D.C., or New York office
Responsible for the strategic and tactical development and management of research services in the Firm's global offices. Manages a global team of 15 research staff. Oversees all aspects of research service, outreach and training. Works to develop firm-wide vision, policies, and service standards. Works collaboratively with Knowledge Management staff to develop and deliver research services that take best advantage of internal and external information.
Assists with proactively supporting client service by actively participating in the firm's Service Excellence initiative. Ensures that staff members are providing quality service
to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors by displaying professionalism via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person and by encouraging an atmosphere that rewards a "can do" attitude.
Manages the coordination and delivery of research services including the intake, assignment, and tracking of requests across all offices. Ensures that the research services provided continue
to meet the needs of the Firm in terms of quality, timeliness, reliability, and completeness. Sets standards for quality and consistency of work product and provides adequate monitoring to ensure the standards are met. Continually develops new research offerings and outreach, including but not limited to, research bulletins, department and practice group presentations, and direct client services. Performs research periodically, as research load and staffing require, and stays abreast of new research techniques and their application to our existing processes. Stays abreast of new and emerging technologies in the field of legal and non-legal research. Works in cooperation with
the Technical Services Manager to ensure that the library collections (online and in print) meet the continually evolving research needs of the practice and administrative departments.
- BA/BS required - MLS, MLIS, and/or JD required.
- Minimum of 8 years previous related experience (including team management), preferably in a large law firm environment or other similar professional services field.
- Expert knowledge of research databases, print resources, and news sources across legal and non-legal subject areas.
- Expert knowledge of legal research strategies and reference interviewing.
- Ability to design research training programs tailored to different customer groups.
- Ability to effectively manage a multi-office team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as necessary to communicate, negotiate, advise, persuade or resolve issues that are highly complex in nature
