Reporting to the Director of Content Management of Investment Information Services (IIS), the Investment Research Center Manager (IRCM) is an integral member of the Fidelity Investment Information Services (IIS) Content Management Team. The IRCM is primarily responsible for management of a team of information specialists and proprietary Investment Research Centers that deliver high-quality, cost-effective investment resources to FMRCo Investment Professionals and Information Professionals. Other major areas of responsibility include: directing all aspects of research center collection management, physical and electronic subscriptions acquisitions, cataloging operations, and archives & records management functions. The IRCM also serves as a core member of the Content Management team who provides strategic input and content analysis used within custom Fidelity investment research applications.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Investment Research Centers
- Provide best-in-class content resources to Investment and Information Professionals that support the investment process
- Lead, direct and manage a content team including: establishing and implementing work schedules, providing advice and training, assigning and reassigning tasks, and appraising and evaluating performance
- Oversee management of Counterparty Research & Analysis (CRA) Virtual Library Operations & Archives application that provides essential data to CRA analysts and complies with SEC and FMRCo records retention requirements
- Partner with CRA and Systems team to provide leadership in determining future enhancements to the CRA Virtual Library & Archives application
- Actively manages Research Information Centers (physical and electronic research libraries) to oversee collection development including review and selection and administration of all forms of content
- Define and review technical and administrative policies and procedures for ongoing rigorous collection development
- Provide timely and cost-effective solutions to Investment Professionals for reference and industry content in direct response to their research requirements
- Evaluate and coordinate evaluation with IIS Information Consultants for acquisition of key industry and business reference information sources used by Investment Professionals
- Partner closely with IIS colleagues and other FMRCo teams to research and evaluate new content sources and ensure content with high relevance and importance to Analysts and Portfolio Managers
- Collaborate with FMR Training and other teams to develop internal marketing and training programs for new versions and awareness building of existing IIS research applications
- Content Management Operations
- Provide direction and oversight of catalog and periodical subscription management operations in support of Investment Professionals and Investment Research Centers
- Develop cataloging /tagging best practices and implement meta-data schemes to leverage core taxonomies (industry and subject-based) for high-quality retrieval
- Actively partner with other CM/IIS colleagues to implement new meta-data schemes and tagging conventions as needed
- Proactively work with IIS colleagues to develop goals, priorities, and strategies for collection audits, cost-effective management of online content tools to meet the ongoing needs of FMRCo Investment Professionals
- Identify superior content for virtual research libraries and web-based investment research applications
- Partner with IIS Web Development and external vendors (EOS, Footprints) to address/resolve database issues and implement product enhancements to IIS applications and vendor databases
- Collaborate with CM/IIS colleagues in the development/enhancement of applications used by FMRCo Information Professionals
- Effectively develop strategies for continuous improvement to content areas, reviewing and accessing systems and procedures to identify, improve and streamline work processes
- Contribute significantly to the development and achievement of strategic and operational plans for new IIS content projects
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience
- Master of Library Science (MLIS) or equivalent
- 6+ years' experience working with investment personnel
- Skills and Knowledge
- Working knowledge of investment instruments and the investment process
- Have proven management experience and leadership skills including coaching and mentoring of staff members in their professional development
- Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Have demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of staff and management
- Possess proven track record working cross functionally within a corporate environment
- Demonstrate solid knowledge management and cataloging/categorization expertise
- Have superior skill and ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Possess the ability to adjust rapidly to changing work environment in financial services industry
- Have a proven track record of successful and innovative collection development experience
- Possess an understanding of knowledge management and categorization experience
- Having knowledge of EOS and Footprints software is a plus
