SLA Boston Board Meeting
March 25, 2009, 6pm - Rotch Library Conference Room, MIT, Cambridge, MA

Dorothy called the meeting to order at 6:18pm.
Minutes:
Minutes of the February 12, 2009 Board meeting were accepted.
Treasurer's Report: as of 3/25/2009:
Savings (mandatory): $25
Checking: $2,530.82
Money Market: $18,455.87
PayPal: $0
Total: $21,011.69
Treasurer certifies that SLA Boston is financially solvent. A motion to accept the Treasurer's Report was passed unanimously.
Boston Programming:
- Usability Event:
Two events planned: a traditional speaker on the evening of 4/7/09 and a hands-on day event in the Simmons usability lab on 4/14/09. Save the Date notices will go out tomorrow, March 26, 2009 - Career Event: Career coach Melissa Fristrom will speak on 4/28/09. Still need an event location.
- EBSCO: Possibly in July. Gloria Zamora may speak, but this is very tentative.
- Portland Program
- Other Events:
- Schedule a CT Valley/Hartford event?
- Green program could be combined with the EBSCO event, as a backup if Gloria
can't come - Low Budget/High Technology Panel. Possible speakers?
- Build a programming brainstorming wiki off board page
- Programming Venues:
Discussed potential venues: Hotel at Riverside. Based on the survey, we need to spread out event locations. Send to board for additional venue ideas. - Programming Vendor Support:
- Heather displayed Tom's Google Docs spreadsheet with vendor contacts. She will send it to the board.
- Deb is no longer a contact at InfoCurrent
Day on the Job: Attendees from Simmons & Hartford.
SLA Scholarship & Stipend:
- Winner will serve on Student Relationship Committee.
- Move award to Fall so winner can be involved with Day on the Job
- Heather, Beth, and Emilie will review applications with Karen and Jaimie
- Chapter will award up to $1,800 for registration, airfare, & lodging (no meals included)
- Mid April/1st week of May announcement
Minority Scholarship
- Possibly rename scholarship after a prominent member of color. Contact Guy St. Clair to identify potential names from SLA's history.
- Scholarship for education - how much money should the chapter award?
- Other ways to reach out to individuals of color in the library field: ask EBSCO to sponsor memberships (approx. $160) for graduates
