Welcome to the wiki home for the IT Division - Information Systems Section!
What is that, you may ask? "The Information Systems Section provides a forum for members who are interested in or responsible for issues related to all areas of information systems infrastructure, including hardware, software, operating systems, networks and network design, security, standards, data structures, programming, and computer graphics. This section monitors and reports on emerging new technologies, and offers education and training in their effective use, implementation and management."
What does this mean in plain language? It means we're the seriously geeky members of the IT division, a division not low on its geek quota. We tend to be the systems librarians, the ones who crawl around on the floor or in the ceiling running cables, the ones who know what a hosts file is and aren't afraid to use it. We're up on the latest standards and scams, argue passionately about operating systems and interoperability issues, and undoubtedly have a favorite flavor of programming language.
This wiki will provide a central location for all members of the IT division to see and share what information systems members are using; a clearinghouse for non-SLA information sources relevant to information systems research; vendor information and evaluations; and much more!
Please welcome Nicole Engard, the Chair of the Information Systems section for 2011!
