The senior Director is tasked with fundraising for the annual banquet, new member reception, and special events. Otherwise most events are self supporting. The business manager for the online newsletter solicits ads for Chapter Notes; both sponsors and advertisers are included or credited in the newsletter. See the sponsorship page.
The DC Chapter has sponsored a number of activities over the years. Currently we are helping Coolidge High School as adult interviewers for students reporting on the books they've read, weeding the collection, and assisting the librarian automate the collection.
The DC Chapter also as actively engaged in the SLA Twinning Projectto connect an SLA member with a newly-formed chapter.
Another innovative project is the [Lubuto Library Project]. This project builds indigenously-styled libraries for street kids, orphas, and other vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa, beginning in Zambia. To learn how the DC Chapter has supported this effort see Chapter Notes May 2008.
