Pittsburgh Chapter - library school programs

Each fall (typically November) the Chapter hosts a student event.  In the past this has taken the form of resume reviews, panels on careers in special librarianship, and networking events.

In the past the Chapter has solicited vendor sponsorship to enable decreased student admission to programs and events.   This has become tradition, and when programs are planned we try to budget for the decreased student admission price.

The Chapter has a student relations chair on the board, and in 2008 this position was held by the 2007-2008 University of Pittsburgh Student Group president.  We found that having a student on the board gave us all new insight as well as a closer relationship to the Student Group.  This benefitted their group as well, as they found it easier to have Chapter members participate in their activities (such as a panel on "buzzwords in special libraries").

In each issue of our Chapter newsletter, the student relations chair coordinates updates on student group activities.  The chapter makes an effort to include both University of Pittsburgh and Clarion University student groups.

In 2008, the Chapter hopes to re-establish a "student or new member" award that will act as a travel stipend for the annual conference.
