2007 - The SLA Asia members in Pakistan are building close working relationships with the Pakistan Library Association and the National Library of Pakistan. Pakistan's first official meeting of the Asian Chapter in early January 2008, which brought together 20 out of 25 members from three cities, the Director General of  the National Library of Pakistan committed to becoming an SLA member and providing support for all future meetings in the country.  This unit of the Asia Chapter has achieved the nearly impossible by growing from 3 members to nearly 30 members in under a year.

In February, the Asian Chapter, held its second annual conference in New Delhi on the topic of Benchmarking and Best Practices in Special Libraries that brought together over 200 participants. This Conference was led by Debal Kar, the Asian Chapter President-elect and PK Jain, the Co-Secretary and Past President. Linda Broussard flew to New Delhi from the US to speak at this event. Another conference in New Delhi is being planned for Nov 2008, and one in Bombay in February.

Kyoko Sato, an SLA member in Tokyo is working closely with headquarters and colleagues in Japan to introduce SLA to Japanese information professionals through a one day workshop in Tokyo scheduled for Feb 2008.  The event is sponsored jointly with the Japan Special Libraries Association.  Janice LaChance is one of two keynote speakers.
