  Strategic Planning Question

While we await the Association's new Strategic Plan (SP), the folks in the Boston Chapter (well, okay, I) have a few questions: a) How and to what extent will the Association expect Chapter- and Division-level SPs to dovetail with the Association's plan? b) How much of the Chapter- and Division-level plan will be unique based on geography? (i.e. accounting for such factors as mix of industry, unique economic circumstances, job availability, concentration of members etc.) c) What exactly IS the role of the Chapters/Divisions from the perspective of the Association, especially given the growing concentration of tools and resources being made available at Association-level (not a bad thing, by the way)?

Your thoughts, guesses, educated opinions are most welcome.  Alan Thibeault

Alex -- good for you to continue the conversation.  I think the Association is trying to model how chapters and divisions can start to help their members work in collaborative spaces.  This Chapter Wiki (23 Things is another) is an example and and entry point for the chapter leadership.  These new tools provide new opportunities for us to interact with each other and to build SLA membership -- as we are better able to communicate all the many benefits of membership -- learning being a premier one.  Best, Susan

Hi,

This is such a timely question.  Another way we're trying to address it at the unit laedership level is by devoting part of the progtram at the Leadership Development Institutes on Sunday, June 15th in Seattle to a review of the value of having unit level strategic plans.  Those plans need to achieve the right balance of meeting the specific needs of the unit (and each is unique it its own way) while also planning to participate in and support the initiatives from the association level.  And, having a 3 year plan can really help units with continuity as leadership changes each year!
